At this special event at the New York Academy of Medicine, His Holiness the Sakya Trizin will give the Medicine Buddha teaching and initiation and Amitayus Blessing. The day will also include a special presentation on Tibetan medicine by traditional Tibetan doctors. Inspired by and rooted in these teachings, Tibetan medicine is based on a holistic understanding of body, mind, and environment, one that gives equal consideration to the spiritual and physical dimensions of disease. In its attention to the external and internal factors affecting each individual, as well as in its universal outlook, the Tibetan system of healing is especially relevant today. |

Encompassing the totality of healing in all its forms, and touching every thing that lives, Medicine Buddha represents nothing less than the healing of the world. Just as a skilled physician heals the body through the art of medicine, Buddha heals the spirit through the dharma of kindness and compassion. The teachings of Medicine Buddha contain the essence of this dharma and remind us that true healing involves both body and mind. Whether we are seeking relief from illness and anxiety, or wish to prolong our good health, Medicine Buddha guides us toward the loving attitude that is the foundation of well-being and the source of all our joys. |
