The UCLA Asia Institute seeks qualified candidates for
the position of Assistant Director.
The Assistant Director serves as program administrator
and outreach coordinator of the Asia Institute (AI) within the UCLA
International Institute. Responsibilities cover all areas of program
development and administration, office management, outreach and fund raising
activities. The Assistant Director and the Executive Director work as a team
with and under the supervision of the Faculty Director to shape and implement
the Institute's programs, long-term academic plans and research initiatives and
to improve the national visibility of the Asia Institute through publicity of
programs and activities and to facilitate the Institute's support for
instruction and faculty/graduate student research on all regions of Asia.
Knowledge of Asia and the range of academic disciplines engaged in research and
teaching are required.
Duties include:
• Process and
monitor purchasing and travel transactions to ensure they conform with the
Institute's operating budget and with campus procedures
• Provide
general supervision of Institute staff and student employees.
• Administer
fellowships and other award programs.
• Oversee the
day to day operation of the AI offices
• Serve as
liaison with local consulates, universities and community groups and establish
and maintain contacts in the diplomatic community, business sector, and local
government.
• Design and
develop teacher training, community outreach and public programs.
• Compile
information and collaborate in writing and editing grant proposals.
• Assist with
the appointment, visa processing, and payment of visiting scholars.
• Develop and
maintain the AI website, social media and other publicity materials.
