KOREA FESTIVAL in ASEAN
From May 16 to Aug 23, the Korea Foundation will be working to build up the friendship among Korea and ASEAN with Korea Festivals in six ASEAN member countries (Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam), which are rapidly becoming major players in the global economy.
This past May saw a Korea-Indonesia Forum in Jakarta, along with a series of Korean studies lectures and a modern dance performance in Yangon, jointly organized with the Ministry of Culture Myanmar. Various cultural events are scheduled for June in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. There will also be Korean studies lectures in Thailand and an educators’ workshop in Indonesia.
1. Cultural Events
Cultural events will be headlined by three performance groups in June: a classical music ensemble, a traditional instrumental group expressing Korea’s past and present, and a troupe performing a wide repertoire of contemporary dance.
Contemporary Dance
Contemporary dance performances by Eunju Shin Dance Company and EDX2 Dance Company are expected to show a new level of Korean dance to the Southeast Asian audience with a new interpretation of traditional Korean dance by Eunju Shin Dance Company and hip-hop-based popular dance moves mixed with contemporary features by EDX2 Dance Company. The dance teams will tour in Myanmar, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Especially in Yangon, Myanmar, the Korean dancers will perform jointly with local dancers to facilitate future cultural exchange.

Classical Music
The Seoul Chamber Society will meet classical music fans in Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines with familiar classical music. The musical group is also planning a visit to local charity group Yayasan Heesu located outside of Jakarta, Indonesia, and will hold a charity concert there.

Traditional & Fusion-Style Korean Music
Fusion music band Ensemble Sinawi, known for mixing traditional Korean music with classical and popular music, will hold concerts in the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore. They will also put on a collaborative performance with local musicians including Philippines Grace NoNo, Indonesian violinist Fafan Isfandiar, Vietnamese B-boy team S.I.N.E in Hanoi and Vietnamese traditional group Bongsen in Ho Chi Minh City.

2. Academic Events
Seminar on Korea-ASEAN Migration and Human
Security
The Korea Foundation and Singapore Management University are holding a conference on ASEAN migration and human security, two growing issues as more and more people cross borders for marriage or for work. Scholars and policymakers from Korea, Singapore, the Philippines, and Cambodia will be gathering for a meaningful debate.

Korean Studies Workshop for Indonesian Educators
A four-day Korean Studies Workshop for Indonesian educators will take place on June 24 at the Korean Studies Center of Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The workshop is designed to provide secondary school educators and educational administrators with the opportunity to acquire first-hand experience and information about Korean history and culture through various lectures and cultural activities.
