In case this might be of interest to Palden Sakya members, I wanted to pass
on info about a major interfaith action on the climate crisis that is planned
for Thursday, September 24, the day before Pope Francis is to address
the UN.
The Buddhist Council
of New York and the NY Buddhist Climate Action Network are
reaching out to dharma centers to encourage members to attend any or all of
these events as their schedules allow, to show strong Buddhist support for
climate action and climate justice.
Rev. TK Nakagaki is on the planning committee for the Light the Way
Vigil -- so we will likely be receiving more information about this
event from the Buddhist Council. But in the meantime, here is the schedule so
far:
1. Light the Way
Vigil: 4:30-5:30 PM, Dag Hammarskjöld
Plaza, East 47th Street between 1st and 2nd Aves. Organized by Our
Voices, a global faith and spiritual climate action network, this vigil
is timed to coincide with the Pope’s arrival in New York City.
2. Under One Sky
Rally: 5:30-7 PM, also at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza.
This rally will focus on the worldwide Sustainable Development Goals that are
due be adopted by the UN.
3. All-Night
Vigil: Church of Our Saviour, 59 Park Ave. (at East 38th
Street). Various faith traditions will be standing watch
overnight. Buddhist meditation and prayer will take
place 6-7 AM in the morning (Friday, September 25). The
vigil will be followed by a presentation to the Pope or his representatives
later that morning.

can also let Emma know if you want to meet together with our Sangha. She has
kindly volunteered to be our point of contact for this event.
