and Fukushima disaster, the country has reassessed its reliance on
nuclear energy — an effort complicated by its attempt to move away
from fossil fuels toward renewable energy. In an interview with Asia Blog, Jackson Ewing,
director of Asian sustainability at the Asia Society Policy
Institute, discusses how Japan's "emphasis on energy system
innovation" provides reason for optimism, though the source of
the country’s future energy needs remains “an open question.”
