George Mason's New Campus in Korea Will Enhance the University's Global Impact

Its been a long time coming – since 2008, to be exact – but George Mason University is finally moving ahead with plans to open a campus in South Korea. The local school received final approval from the Korean Ministry of Education in August and is slated to open the doors of Songdo's newest college in March, according to The Korea Times.

What's unique about this university in particular is that while it's located in Korea, students will have the opportunity to spend two semesters on the main campus in the U.S., offering a more global education opportunity. Matthew Zingraff, president of George Mason Korea, promises that the quality of education provided in both Songdo and the U.S. are identical, too.

He explained in an interview with The Korea Times that "Mason Korea offers the attractive opportunity to study in two dynamic countries, Korea and the U.S., close to two major world capitals, Seoul and Washington, and to build networks of professional contacts and friends in both." Zingraff added that the education offered at George Mason Korea will work toward offer a competitive advantage to students.

As for the teaching methods that will be used at the new school, Zingraff said that "Mason's student-centered and holistic learning is transformative, integrating scholarly learning, global literacy and student development." It will be no different in Korea.

"The Mason student experience combines identity cultivation and career development ensuring graduates find a balance between fulfillment and success," which speaks to the university's mission to create an inclusive educational environment that will help groom the next generation of leaders.
