major economic reforms. In an interview with Asia Blog,
Managing Director and Regional Head of DBS Group Research Timothy Wong

Throughout the Philippines’ history,
its hundreds of islands have been home to a multitude of
ethnolinguistic groups producing diverse musical chants. But over the
past six centuries, much of these traditional soundscapes have faded
away amid colonization and globalization. Today, Grace Nono and
her musical ensemble are preserving these sounds for future
generations. Learning directly from elders across several different
islands, the group has mastered chants rarely heard even among
Filipinos. At 8 p.m. New York time on October 30, the ensemble will
perform their soundscapes for a live online broadcast. Tickets for
the performance at Asia Society in New York are also still available.

On Wednesday, 10 of the remaining
candidates for the Republican Party presidential nomination will
gather in Boulder, Colorado, for the third GOP debate of this
electoral season. Although the debate will mostly focus on jobs, the
question of China’s role in the global economy is likely to arise. To
find out which candidate said what about China in the debate — and
during the campaign in general — Asia Society’s online magazine ChinaFile has
compiled a nifty tracker. Check it out.
