Since 2012, the Lahore Literary
Festival has sought to counter Pakistan's reputation for political
instability, poverty, and violent extremism ... and now the country's
"soft power" abroad is spreading through the
event. "In New York and other Western cities, Pakistan's
cultural mosaic is collateral damage through viewing the country
through a security lens," said Razi Ahmed,
who started the festival. "Look beyond and there is a country
teeming with creativity and cultural entrepreneurship."

In response to severe demographic
problems like an aging population and gender imbalance, China recently
relaxed its long-standing “One Child Policy” and now allows all
families to have two children. But demographer Dudley Poston,
who has researched China’s population issues for 35 years, explains
that it’s too little, too late. "No, there will not be a baby
boom, and yes, there will be an economic bust," Poston said.
