In a discussion at Asia Society’s Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit in Hong Kong, retired
U.S. General David
Petraeus reflected on the “competitive endeavor”
of life and compared the military surge he oversaw in Iraq to the
1993 Bill
Murray film Groundhog
Day. “It was just a grinding existence,” Petraeus said.
“People think it must have been exhilarating to be involved in it, but
I was just trying to get through each day.”
