Between 1990 and 2005, Nepal lost 25 percent of its forest cover to haphazard urbanization, a lack of sustainable economic alternatives, inadequate support to organic farmers, and climate change. In an interview with Asia Blog accompanied by photos, Asia 21 Young Leader Rajeev Goyal discusses how he’s trying to counter this trend through a Himalayan biodiversity “university” illustrating that environmental conservation, livelihood, and education “are not mutually exclusive.”

At Asia Society in New York last week, Deputy Foreign Minister of Japan Shinsuke Sugiyama urged the international community to move beyond condemnations of North Korea for its repeated flouting of global agreements and take the "further significant measures" that are called for in U.N. Security Council resolutions. Without such measures, Sugiyama said, "the crying baby wouldn't listen."
