Major typhoon kills 7

and paralyzes swaths

of Japan

TOKYO/OSAKA -- The worst
storm to hit Japan's main islands
in 25 years struck the heart of one
 of its largest metropolitan areas,
killing seven people and shutting
down Osaka's main international airport indefinitely.

About 3,000 people, including passengers, are stranded at the
flooded Kansai Airport, and 700 flights have been canceled across Japan.

The storm also shuttered shops, factories and amusement parks.
