Please make note of the following panels and events
sponsored by the Yogācāra Studies Unit at next month's annual meeting of the
American Academy of Religion in San Diego. More information about each panel,
including the list of panelists and paper abstracts, can be found in the
program book on the AAR's website:
1) Yogācāra and Vedānta in Modern Chinese and Indian
Thought

2) Text Discussion Panel: The Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra

(Fourth Level)
*The primary focal point of this discussion will be
chapter six, or the "Reality" chapter of this text. Some of the
discussants will also reference other passages. We have compiled a set of
documents including Sanskrit, Chinese, Tibetan and English translations of the
text. We recommend that you read the relevant portions ahead of time, and print
and bring the translations to the panel. You may find the documents here:

4) The Yogācāra Studies Unit Business Meeting will be held
immediately following the Text Discussion Panel on Saturday evening at 7
pm.
5) The Yogācāra Studies Unit will once again organize a
happy hour for scholars of Buddhism, on Saturday night at 8pm (right after
our business meeting), at one of the hotel bars around the
convention center. We will email updated information about the location by
that Saturday afternoon. We thank the Mangalam Center for their financial
sponsorship of this social gathering. Be sure not to miss this event -
the only Buddhist studies party at the AAR!
6) Finally, the Yogācāra Studies Unit will be electing one
more member to our steering committee by an online ballot early in 2020. We are
accepting nominations for this position. Please write to either of us with a
nomination.
