WORKSHOP> Introduction to GIS for Religious Studies

Dear all,
There are still some seats for this workshop held at the Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts, Taiwan, July 17-25, 2019:
==============================

"Introduction to GIS and Aerial Imaging in Fieldwork"
In July 2019, the cluster "Religion and Technology" of FROGBEAR will be hosted at the Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts (DILA). We offer a hands-on workshop in GIS and Aerial Imaging for the study of religion. We will use the religious landscape of north-east Taiwan as an example, and work on how GIS data, satellite images, and self-produced aerial photography can be used when researching religious sites.
Days will be spend in classroom sessions and (weather allowing) on site-visits. In the mornings, we will use open source software (QGIS) and open data to build skills in geo-spacial methods; in the afternoons, participants will work in teams to visit different sites and landscapes, in the evenings teams will meet to establish the metadata for the data collected during the day.

The workshop is free of charge. DILA and the Chung-hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies have kindly agreed to provide food and dormitory style accommodation. Participants are expected to arrange their own travel to Dharma Drum arriving on 7/17 and leaving 7/25. As space is limited, participants are expected to commit to the whole program once accepted.
