TOKYO -- The approval
rating
for Japan's cabinet reached
53% this month, up 6 percentage
points
from December, as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe benefits
from support for his
policies
toward Russia and South Korea.
The Nikkei poll found that 34%
of respondents saw foreign affairs
and national
security as a policy priority, up 8 points from last
month.
Fewer respondents want Japan
to push for the return of all four disputed
islands as Abe negotiates
a World War II peace treaty
with Russia, but a
majority
favor a stronger response
toward South Korea following
