by Richard Payne
The Institute of Buddhist Studies is pleased to announce the initiation of a
fourth series of its journal, Pacific World. The Pacific World: Journal of the Institute of Buddhist Studies, is an annual, open-access, and anonymous peer-reviewed journal in English devoted to the dissemination of historical, textual, critical and interpretive studies on Buddhism generally, and Jōdo Shinshū Buddhism particularly, to both academic and lay readerships.
Originally started by Rev. Dr. Yehan Numata when he was a student at the University of California, Berkeley, Pacific World has now moved to
A) anonymous peer reviews--two reviewers for each submission (one from Editorial Committee, one from Editorial Advisory Board),
B) Open Access, and
C) online only publication, all essays available for free download (including archive).
Scope: Pacific World encourages submissions across the entire range of the Buddhist tradition, and any methodology.
The Pacific World is funded through the generosity of BDK/America, which makes it possible for us to provide access to the journal free of charge.
