India's
Revolutionary Smartphones
In
India, smartphones are more than just a convenient tool for sending
text messages and checking Facebook. For millions, they're also their
first Walkman, first camera, and even their first-ever exposure to the
internet. Ravi
Agrawal, managing editor of Foreign Policy and an Asia 21 Young
Leader, believes that smartphones have the potential to transform daily
life in the world's largest democracy. For a generation of young
Indians, he says, the phones represent "literal and figurative
mobility." Agarwal will discuss India's future in a panel
discussion held at Asia Society on December 4, available
globally via live webcast.
