Panel on Monastic Education and the Monastic Curriculum
by Manuel Lopez
Dear Friends and Colleagues,I invite all who are interested to apply to be part of an AAR panel proposal for the Buddhism Unit with the title "Innovations in Buddhist Monastic Education and the Monastic Curriculum Throughout the Buddhist World."
The goal of the panel will be to explore the efforts taken in a variety of Buddhist countries to transform the monastic curriculum and religious education in order to adapt to the demands of the modern world. The focus of the panel would be on the reforms to the educational system in a monastic setting, but the papers could/should also address other issues, such as the way monasticism is dealing with efforts to become more inclusive in terms of gender, adopting new pedagogies, or facing unique political and social pressures.
Please contact Manuel Lopez (mlopezzafra@ncf.edu) for more information. Abstracts should be submitted by February 15th.
