Society Does the Sundance Film Festival
Following
a year in which Crazy

talent in cinema? Asia Society Northern California, Asia Society
Southern California, and the Elkes Foundation hosted a panel
discussion at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival exploring this
question. Participants included writer/directors Lulu Wang,
Richie Mehta,
and Justin
Chon; and producers Anita Gou and Janet Yang.

U.S.-China
Relations: Two Years After Trump
A
tense relationship with China has played a dominant role in
American foreign policy in the first two years of Donald Trump’s
presidency, a period coinciding with significant changes within
China under the leadership of President Xi Jinping.
In an interview conducted on the eve of a
new report released by the Task Force on U.S.-China
Policy, Asia Society’s Orville
Schell takes stock of the crucial bilateral
relationship and explains why President Trump’s approach to China
has some merit — even if by accident.

AFFAIRS
Japan's
Population Dilemma
Japan’s
low birth rate and aging population have made it easy for recent
graduates to find good jobs — a factor economist Jesper Koll
cites when he says Japan is the best place in the world for young
people to get ahead. But in the medium to long term, other experts
are less certain that a precipitous population decline will be such
a good thing for the country’s economy, society, and place in the
world.
