Abe comes down on side

 of economy with decision

to reopen Tokyo

TOKYO -- Anxious about Japan's economy, Prime Minister Shinzo
 Abe huddled with his cabinet
for a fateful decision: whether
to lift the state of emergency
in Tokyo and other regions
on Monday.

An initial proposal from a
 panel of experts was dropped,
as it was deemed almost
impossible to ever reach.

"Let's go with this," Abe said
Sunday night, drawing
agreement from the economic
policy chief and the health minister. "We have managed
to bring the outbreak under
control within just one and
a half months.
This demonstrates the
effectiveness of the Japan model,
" he reportedly said.
