A big part of the Foundation’s mission is to continue to ask the
questions that Krishnamurti asked, and to continue to point to where he
was asking us to look. Our mission has to do more with the teachings than
with the person, but in a broader sense, the teachings are ultimately
about understanding ourselves. As Krishnamurti pointed out: do not repeat anything that you
have not known directly by your understanding of yourself.
So, in essence, the Foundation exists to encourage the study of oneself
and to find a different way of living that will express itself in our
relationships and in the world.
Individually and socially, we tend to try to solve conflicts on the
immediate, surface level. Krishnamurti points out that our immediate
problems are a consequence of a deeper underlying structure – a deeper
conflict and confusion. We have an innate programming that’s acting in
ourselves which could be considered ‘successful’ at a certain level, but
this same programming hits a wall and becomes destructive in regards to
the whole. Our conditioning and its relationship to time, thought, and
suffering, needs to be understood, as Krishnamurti says, without
condemnation. As a foundation, we feel that we need to continue to direct
attention towards those underlying issues.
At this point in time, as we face this global challenge, Krishnamurti’s
insights are critical to our existence. The current health crisis and
stay-at-home orders have had a profound impact on the organization. We
see the need to operate differently in this new reality that we are all
facing.
The Foundation is making financial investments towards a stronger
presence online. Our online learning platform, the KFA Youtube channel,
the 24/7 Krishnamurti radio, and The
Immeasurable podcast, are some of the projects that we’ll
continue to grow and develop. This year’s Online May Gathering attracted
10 times more subscribers than in previous years. We’ll also continue to
take care of Krishnamurti’s original works at the Archives, and continue
to publish new books every year.
Although the Krishnamurti Center is currently closed due to the
stay-at-home orders, your support will ensure our ability to open with
the proper accommodations in place for the safety of our staff and
guests. The Center will continue to be an oasis for the mind, as
Krishnamurti intended.
In anticipation of these needs, we are asking those who can afford to do
so to donate today.
Every donation, large or small, will help us in the coming year. It will
ensure Krishnamurti’s insights are available to this generation and the
ones to come.
The KFA staff and I wish you good health and safety.
Sincerely,
Jaap Sluijter
Executive Director
