How are you doing today?
Struggling? Thriving? Alternating every 15 minutes? However you’re
doing, please know that you’re not alone.
Weeks ago, when this
stay-home life was still new, my son bounded up to the dinner table
and gleefully announced, “Guess what, mom? Tomorrow is bring your kid
to work day!” Yes. It was. As has been every day since. We still have
some glee, but it’s worn a bit thin. We also have anger. Grief. Fear.
And so much love. He is getting early lessons in uncertainty. We are
all getting daily lessons in uncertainty.
In The Places That Scare You, Pema Chödrön writes
about the pain of change: “Acknowledging this truth doesn’t mean that
we’re looking on the dark side. What it means is that we begin to
understand that we’re not the only one who can’t keep it all
together. We no longer believe that there are people who have managed
to avoid uncertainty.” She continues, “The pith instruction is, Stay
. . . stay . . . just stay.”
And so we stay.
The books we share today
offer real support and insight for acknowledging our truths and
working with tough times. I hope they can help you stay.
You are not alone.
