Question about the Vinaya and Gardeners
by Victor Forte
I believe I came across a text at one time that in the
vinaya there is a story of the Buddha bringing in gardeners to tend a park
where the monks were living so that the monks themselves would no longer engage
in gardening work and experience the distress over the death of plants they
were tending. Is there such a story in the Pali canon? If so where in the canon
can it be found? I have been looking for confirmation of this story and can
find none in my research, and I am unable to place exactly which text I read
that included the story.Victor Forte
