Japan to overhaul trio 

of bank notes as new era

 starts

TOKYO -- With a new Imperial
 era a few weeks away, Japan 
is set to announce the first revamp
 of its 1,000 yen (about $9), 
5,000 yen and 10,000 yen 
bills since 2004, Nikkei has
 learned.

The 10,000 yen bank note will 
feature the father of Japanese capitalism, Eiichi Shibusawa,
 who founded an early Mizuho 
Bank predecessor and many
 other enterprises.

The 5,000 yen bill will have Tsuda University founder Umeko Tsuda, a
 trailblazer in higher education
 for women, while the 1,000 yen
 note will depict 
Shibasaburo Kitasato, 
the father of modern medicine in Japan.
