In extraordinary times like these, so many of us are feeling
a whole range of emotions such as fear, anxiety, uncertainty,
disconnectedness, helplessness, and more. Many of us are sequestered at
home and whether we experience that as welcome or unwelcome, it does
offer us an opportunity. What a time to embark on or deepen a meditation
practice!
As a Shambhala reader, you likely know that there are many
meditation techniques that we can use for different purposes, such as
developing concentration, loving-kindness and compassion, faith, or
profound insight into how our minds and the world work. As teacher and
author Anam Thubten describes in his book No Self, No Problem, meditation can be thought of as “the art of resting or the
art of relaxing. When we relax completely we see that all of our thoughts
start to dissipate. The egoic mind begins to dissolve automatically. The
egoic mind is very powerful and if we try to get rid of it, it doesn’t
really work. But when we just sit and relax it dissolves without doing
anything.”
For over 50 years, our mission at Shambhala Publications has
been to publish works that are made to help people in times like these.
When we have little control over our outer circumstances, we can learn to
relate to those circumstances in a more beneficial way through
meditation.
We have put together this set of meditation resources to
help familiarize you and your family—whether you’re beginning or
deepening your practice—with the relaxed mind that Anam Thubten
describes. Whether it is a video, a book, an online event with one of our
authors, an online course, or an article on our website, we hope the
materials below provide you with a means to go deeper and thereby become
more resilient as we are all being called to do right now.
May you be well and your practice flourish.
