China up close

January 10, 2020

China crowns Xi with

 special title, citing rare crisis

At the end of last year, the Chinese Communist Party held an important
two-day meeting of the powerful 25-member Politburo.

The meeting summarized the current times as a "once in a hundred years"

period of great change, and that President Xi Jinping has shown "superb
skill in the art of political leadership" in handling the crisis. It also called
him the "people's leader," a special title once used for Mao Zedong.

to reflect how important the year 2020 will be for the Chinese leader,
and his aspirations to stay the country's number one for life. Read here.
