QUERY > Shangren and hanging up money

by Jonathan Silk
Dear Colleagues,
Yeah, I don't know what the subject line means either, really. A colleague asked me a question I don't even know how to begin to answer, namely:
After his father's passing, Khan Hong Taiji (r. 1626-1643) starts to show a greater interest in Buddhistic practice. One aspect of it puzzles me: he gives orders to implement a ritual at the beginning of every month, in which sacrifices are made to Xang rin (which I interpret as Shangren 上人). One important aspect of the ritual is to hang up money before the temple/shrine of the Shang rin.
1) At this time are temples or shrines being dedicated to 上人 in general?
2) Does it include the hanging up of money. And if not in this case, are there other cases where money is being hung.
Any help?

Heart Wide Open: The Art and Science of Cultivating Compassion (May 1–28)

Compassion is not only inherent to who we are as human beings, but is necessary for our well-being. With our hearts closed against suffering, we are only half open to life. Allowing ourselves to connect emotionally to others means being open to all emotions, even the uncomfortable ones.

The secret to self-discipline is having empathy for your future self

In general, we human beings have trouble doing things that are good for our long-term wellbeing, but which may be challenging in the short-term.
Meditating or exercising regularly are good examples of habits where self-discipline is required. It can be stressful to fit a regular meditation practice or exercise routine into our already very busy lives.
