Podcast: Women Confront 'Honor Killing' in Pakistan
 
Each year, throughout the world, thousands of women are murdered in so-called "honor killings" for bringing perceived shame onto their families. Because of legal loopholes and entrenched ideas about a woman’s role in the family, the practice is especially prevalent in Pakistan. On the Asia Society Podcast, filmmakerSharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who recently won an Oscar for her film on honor killing, discusses why the crime persists, and how things might be starting to change.

Where China and Africa Intersect, in Photos
 
As China has deepened economic ties with Africa, Africans have poured into the country — mostly to the southern city of Guangzhou. Photographer Daniel Traub has tried to capture the “intermingling worlds” of these migrants and Chinese citizens in the city, many of whom are internal migrants themselves. He explains how he used images of Africans taken by Chinese photographers on a Guangzhou pedestrian bridge to portray the connections between two very different cultures.

An Inside Look at 'Paradise Interrupted'
 
Last week, Asia Society and the Lincoln Center Festival co-presented a sneak preview and behind the scenes look at Paradise Interrupted, a hybrid art installation/opera piece that combines the traditions of Chinese opera with modern stage elements like lighting, video projection, and paper set design. The performance was followed by a discussion with the minds behind the production.
