QUERY>Whalen Lai's Dissertation on the Awakening of Faith

Dear Colleagues,
Might someone have a PDF of Whalen Lai's 1975 dissertation "The Awakening of Faith in Mahayana (Ta-Ch’eng Ch’i-Hsin Lun): A Study of the Unfolding of Sinitic Mahayana Motifs.”(Harvard University) ?

Call for papers: AAR Panel on Buddhist Philosophy and Contemplative Practice

Dear Colleagues,
I am putting together a panel on ‘Buddhist Philosophy and Contemplative Practice’ for this year’s American Academy of Religion annual conference.
The panel seeks to present research on the various ways in which Buddhists have understood rational inquiry to inform contemplative practices and vice versa, and to also reflect upon the meaning, purpose, and methods of studying Buddhist philosophy in the academy in light of Buddhism's contemplative contexts.
Panelists might address, for example: Can the study of Buddhist philosophy be separated from its contemplative context? Should it? What do the historical record or contemporary Buddhist cultures tell us about what Buddhists have said (or might say) about their own rational inquiry (or our own) in relation to contemplative practice? How might this bear upon contemporary debates regarding the nature of religious/mystical experience, or the role of such experinece in the development of Buddhist doctrine? What is the meaning or purpose of studying Buddhist philosophy in the academy? What relation does this have (if any) to the development/cultivation of our own consciousness? What would the academic study of Buddhist philosophy look like if it incorporated contemplative practice as a complementary mode of inquiry? What institutional conditions or philosophical and methodological perspectives make this notion sound absurd or ill advised, or like a good idea?
All papers should include some second order reflection on the academic study of Buddhist philosophy, but need not focus on it.
If you are interested in participating, please send a brief description of your paper to me (karin.meyers@ryi.org) by February 15th. I will need completed proposals (1000 words + 150 word abstract) by February 24th
Sincerely,
