$9bn China chip project

TAIPEI/OSAKA -- Attracted by 
 massive subsidies and a desire
 to ease its reliance on Apple, top iPhone assembler Foxconn is 
preparing to launch an $8.7 
billion chipmaking project in 
China.

The move comes as the 
Taiwanese company tries to
 tread a delicate path between Washington and Beijing, 
which are locked in a bitter trade war.
