Myanmar's strategic

coastline lures

big Asian economies

YANGON -- Japan and other
 Asian heavyweights are
aggressively backing new port
projects in Myanmar, seeking a
foothold on the coastline of a
country strategically located
between China, India and Southeast Asia.

A Japanese logistics company

and two trading houses opened
a new container terminal
last month next to the
hilawa Special Economic

 Zone outside Yangon.

Such projects are partly an

effort to catch up with China,
which has a head start
in Myanmar
 infrastructure projects.
