H-Buddhism: QUERY> Pagpa and Kubilai Khan
by Joseph Walser
Dear Colleagues,
Does anyone out there know of the earliest source to mention Pagpa's initiation of Kubilai Khan into the Hevajra Tantra? The Yuan Shi is the earliest I have been able to find so far and it only mentions that an unnamed monk instructs the emperor in the Hevajra, but says nothing of any kind of special relationship between the two. Lack of detail is not surprising given the source (more interested in condemning the orgies than detailing the practices), but it made me wonder if there is some 14th century (or earlier) Tibetan source that will give me more detail. Any hints will be greatly appreciated.
Best,
j
