Japan preps first subsid 

to compan moving 

production out of China

TOKYO/SENDAI, Japan --
Consumer products maker 
Iris Ohyama is set to become 
the first Japanese company
 to receive a government 
subsidy to shift production 
away from China in an effort 
to build more resilient
 supply chains. 

In June, Iris will begin 
producin
face masks at its home 
base in northern Japan. 
The company 
will produce masks 
from scratch, including the fabric.
 It wants 
to pay 75% of the cost with
 subsidies.

The government has set 
aside 
more than 240 billion yen 
($2.2 billion) for subsides 
to reorganize supply chains.
