Nissan CEO calls

Renault opposition

to reform 'most regrettable'

TOKYO -- Nissan Motor CEO
and President Hiroto Saikawa
 called Renault's decision to,
in effect, block the Japanese automaker's reform plans
on corporate governance
"most regrettable," exposing
the strong distrust brewing
between the two alliance partners.

Nissan has "no other option"
but to pursue a governance
 structure that would see three
specialist committees deciding
 matters of nominations,
remuneration and auditing,
Saikawa told Nikkei in an
 interview Monday.

Renault has told Nissan that
it would abstain from voting
on the motion at an upcoming shareholders meeting, a de facto blocking of the motion since
Nissan needs a two-thirds vote
from shareholders to press ahead.
