NOTICE> Plagiarism/Pirating Alert

by Matthew Kapstein

Dear friends,
It has come to the attention of several of us in Asian Studies fields that a Beijing-based publisher, "Scitus Academics" www.scitusacademics.com, has been pirating large numbers of Western academic publications, by simply reproducing them with a false author attribution. For instance, the late Joseph Kitagawa's The Religious Traditions of Asia: Religion, History and Culture  https://www.amazon.com/Religious-Traditions-Asia-Religion-History/dp/0700717625
appears on the Scitus website under the same title, but authored by "Bennie Sempers" (if you can believe):

Most of this pirating involves titles in the Sciences, but titles in the Social Sciences and Humanities have been also pilfered, including works in the field of Buddhist Studies. Routledge seems to be the main publisher targeted, and their legal department has been notified. But you may wish to see if titles from other publishers appear in their catalog as well and, if so, notify them immediately.
Scitus apparently has a US address and one hopes that that operation, at least, will be swiftly shut down.
